The Farm in the Hinterlands

As I worked I wondered why what was such an obviously successful farm had come to such a state.

My friend-historian, Jill Peters, has told me that the farm was built in 1886 and that the land is still being farmed. However, I couldn’t help but wonder, did the the owner say to himself, "My farm has produced more than my barns can hold, so I shall build new and bigger ones to hold my wealth. My fortune is made, now I can sit back and eat, drink, and party," only to find a still small voice whispering to him, "Thou fool, this night thy soul is required of thee; then whose shall these things be?"

The light was painfully beautiful on this day in April 2020. I couldn’t have taken a bad photograph if I tried.
