hic sunt dracones

hic sunt dracones translated means, “Here be dragons.” Well I’ve travelled to Dragonsville, Virginia, and alas, not a dragon in sight. And to get there you travel down Devil’s 3 Jump Road. And no, I didn’t see any devils either. But I did encounter a few interesting places along the way.

To get to Devils 3 Jump road you may pass this old General Merchandise Store off The Trail in Little Plymouth.

Near that store is this abandoned farmhouse.

Eventually you’ll come to a T intersection, take a left onto Liberty Hall Road and soon you’ll see these buildings on your right.

And just a few yards down on your left your GPS will announce that “You’ve arrived” at Dragonsville.

Elvira Jefferson Clegg shared some fond memories of growing up in Dragonsville and Mr Randolph’s store, “in that store is a big jar of sour pickles on the counter beside a jar of smoked hot sausages…There was a juke box behind the door, you can play 3 songs for 25 cents. And on Friday evening until Saturday night, you can buy your dinner, fried chicken, pig feet, or BBQ with potato salad, green beans, a roll and a piece of pie. You could eat, dance, and drink until Last Call for Alcohol. This was the summer of 1963, I was 13 with my father.”

Don’t think of trying to fill up your tank - I think this is reserved only for dragons. Probably very high octane.
