Squashapenny Junction
When I was a young boy
Roamin' on the railroad tracks
Put copper pennies on the rails
Locomotive come and squash 'em flat
We'd run to fetch 'em back
We'd run to fetch 'em back
Don Henley “Train in the Distance”
Squashapenny, a little railroad depot community named after placing pennies on the railroad tracks so they could get "squashed," with a quirky antique store, and bank, and an even quirkier owner. If you visit - don't cross the rope onto the property, don't take pictures except from the street, and if the owner comes out keep your camera or cell phone from her sight - she'll turn her back to you until you do, she doesn't "trust technology.” However, as you can see from the photographs she has a very whimsical collection of antiques. And I understand that inside the store it’s even more interesting.
If you’d like to visit and peruse her collection you do need to call 804-876-3083 and schedule an appointment.
