The Rosenwald High School
Since starting this project in 2018 I’ve discovered numerous Tuskegee and Rosenwald schools. Most are small facilities. But this one that I came across in March of 2021 in Reedville, Virginia is the first High School I’ve come across. And it is the most impressive Rosenwald school that I’ve come across.
The Julius Rosenwald High School is in the Northern Neck area of Virginia, right outside of Reedville. This school opened in 1917, and was originally known as the Northumberland County Training School. Rosenwald Schools were joint community efforts with funding provided by local African Americans, who raised more than $7,000 for this school, and the balance of the cost being covered by the Rosenwald Fund.
The original school name, in 1917, was the Northumberland County Training School. On January 6,1932 Julius Rosenwald passed away and the school was renamed the Julius Rosenwald High School.
